I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Michael Ferriter for two years at CrossFit Showdown. Over that time, I’ve seen a dramatic change in his fitness, health, strength, and energy levels.
Michael is a husband and father of two. When he’s not spending time with his family, he is hard at work.
Michael’s daily workouts give him the energy to excel at work and be fully present with his family.
In this blog post, we will dive into how Michael’s commitment to consistency over the past two years has transformed his life, both in and out of the gym. From building strength to improving his overall well-being, Michael’s journey is a powerful reminder of the impact of consistency.
Michael’s Starting Point
Before Michael started with us, he had taken a couple of years off from the gym.
As a new father, his focus was entirely on his growing family, prioritizing quality time with them above all else. During this time, he found himself becoming less active, which led to some unwanted weight gain.
Michael recognized that, although he was thriving in his role as a dad and husband, he had neglected his own health and fitness.
He knew it was time to reclaim his strength, energy, and overall well-being, not just for himself, but to be a better partner and parent. That’s when he decided to get back into the gym and make his health a priority again.
Starting Slow
When Michael got back into fitness, he gradually worked his way back to consistency.
In the beginning, he was coming 2-3x/week consistently.
Michael was focused on his form, technique, and building a sustainable routine around his busy schedule.
Now, Michael is a regular morning class attendee who can workout 4-5x per week.
Overcoming Setbacks
Michael’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. Early on, he suffered a shoulder injury, but instead of letting it take him out of the gym, he worked with his coaches to scale his workouts and focus on movements that wouldn’t aggravate the injury. He also made it a habit to come in early to stretch and mobilize, ensuring his body was primed for each session.
On top of his physical challenges, Michael also faces the ongoing struggle of balancing work, fitness, and sleepless nights with his young kids. As a father of two, there were many nights when his sleep was disrupted, making it hard to find the energy to hit the gym. Despite the exhaustion, he remained committed to his fitness journey, knowing that staying consistent was key to maintaining his health. His determination to prioritize his health, even through the challenges of parenting and lack of sleep, speaks to his resilience and dedication to being the best version of himself for his family.
Achievements
Michael has attended almost 500 workouts in his two-year journey at CrossFit Showdown.
He maintains an impressive engine, as he blazes through most workouts.
He can squat almost twice his body weight and deadlift almost triple his body weight.
Michael has become a well-rounded athlete through his persistence and dedication.
Impact of Consistency Beyond the Gym
One of the most rewarding changes is that he’s now working out alongside his wife, creating a shared fitness journey. With more energy and strength, Michael finds it easier to keep up with his kids, playing with them and being fully engaged in their active lives. Consistency has truly transformed his entire lifestyle.
Closing Thoughts
Michael’s journey is a great reminder of the power of consistency. Through his dedication to fitness, he’s not only improved his health but also enhanced his work performance and family life. His story proves that the effort we put into our routines has far-reaching effects, and that steady progress can lead to big, meaningful changes in every area of our lives.
