Part of my duty as a CrossFit Affiliate owner is to share powerful stories from my community.
At the end of 2024, I had the pleasure of meeting Lane, who dropped into CrossFit Showdown for two weeks while traveling to South Florida for work.
In just a few short weeks, Lane quickly became a part of our community. Today, I have the honor of sharing his incredible journey—how he lost 150 pounds with the help of CrossFit.
Before Lane Started CrossFit
Before joining his local CrossFit gym in Tampa, Lane wasn’t active at all.
As a former collegiate football player, he had experience with weightlifting and conditioning, but after college, Lane stopped prioritizing his health.
Lane succumbed to a lifestyle of inactivity and eating out. At his heaviest, Lane weighed 446 pounds.
Eventually, Lane reached a turning point. He decided it was time to make a change—to take back control of his health and his future.
Lane’s First Experience with CrossFit
Lane jumped right into classes when he joined his local CrossFit affiliate.
He was unable to make it through some of the warm-ups without excruciating back pain and often struggled with the workouts.
Despite these challenges, Lane listened to the instructions of his coaches and kept pushing forward.
It’s scary to start a new fitness routine in a new gym – especially when you don’t know anyone.
When you walk into a CrossFit affiliate, however, you are welcomed with a big smile and a fist bump from your coach.
That’s exactly the experience we provided when he first introduced Lane to our community.

I got to know Lane pretty well, as we chatted before and after class.
He would come early to hang out and warm up. We’d spend time talking after class too, which is where he told me his story.
How CrossFit Changed Lane’s Life
As I mentioned earlier, Lane was 446 lbs when he first joined his local CrossFit Affiliate in May 2023.
In his most recent weigh-in, Lane is down to an astounding 300lbs and 21% body fat.
