The 5 Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself When You Start Training

Starting a training program is the first step in changing your life.

If you want to make fitness a permanent part of your life, you need to start thinking differently. It’s not just about what you do in the gym—it’s about how you plan your day, fuel your body, recover, and surround yourself with the right influences.

In this blog post, we will tell you the 5 most important questions to ask yourself when you start training. The answers to these daily questions will help to shift your mindset and set yourself up for a lifetime where your fitness and health are prioritized.

1. What time will you work out?

The answer to, “What time will you work out today?” should be decided the night before.

Take an audit of your schedule and carve out an hour for yourself.

For most people, it’s either going to be before or after work.

If you are going to workout early in the morning, you’ll probably want to go to bed early (See question #3).

Instead of waiting until, “the right moment” when the stars align, go out of your way and make time for your workout.

2. What will you eat today?

Like question #1, the answer to “What will you eat today?” should be planned out the day before.

Carve out time to make a grocery list and pick up enough food for the week ahead.

On Sunday, take 30-60 minutes to meal prep.

When you have the necessary ingredients to make proper meals, it’s a lot easier to stay in control of what you are putting into your body.

Conversely, if you don’t do any grocery shopping or meal prepping, you’ll often find yourself eating out and eating in excess.

A consistent habit of eating out usually leads to weight gain.

Plan your meals and your nutrition won’t have to be a mystery.

3. What time will you go to sleep?

Achieving your desired results in the gym won’t come without sacrifices.

Staying up late to binge your favorite Netflix show or mindlessly scrolling through countless short videos on Instagram or TikTok won’t do your sleep any favors—both the quantity and quality of your sleep will suffer.

If you are an early riser like a lot of our members, you should be aiming for 6-7 hours of sleep. To wake up on time for your 5:30 AM workout AND gett enough sleep, you’ll need to be in bed by 9:00 PM.

4. How much water will you drink?

When you start training consistently, get into the habit of carrying around a 20-oz water bottle.

For the average person, 80 ounces of water will suffice.

Try to drink 20 ounces every 3 hours starting from 6 am until 6 pm. Adjust this slightly depending on the time you wake up or go to bed.

Proper hydration is essential for optimal recovery, sustained energy levels, and peak performance—especially when training hard.

5. Who will you spend time around?

This is probably the hardest one for most people.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” from Jim Rohn.

If you spend time with people who don’t care about any of the 5 questions we posed above, chances are, you won’t be thinking about those things either.

On the other hand, if you join a community of people who are constantly trying to better themselves-physically and mentally- it will catch on to you as well.

Where Do You Start?

If you’ve never asked yourself any of these questions, start by planning out a time to go to the gym. The rest will fall into place over time.
